~

Imagine you’re on a towering roller coaster, one that whips and dives with ferocity. Every turn feels like a car accident, while every loop leaves your inside-out stomach plotting to kill you. It might be thrilling, fun even for moments, as the ride only lasts a matter of seconds.

Now pretend it never ends.

That’s just life for Mike Tyson, the most enigmatic athlete in the history of sports.

There is no middle ground for Mike. It was and probably always will be boom or bust. It’s amazing he is still alive because not many people have endured the extreme lows he has after once holding the title of world champion.

As a fighter nobody was more dominant. His bouts rarely lasted longer than a few rounds, sometimes seconds, thanks to a decapitating uppercut and a cheek-shattering left hook. He finished his boxing career 50-6, with 44 by knockout, and will go down as one of the all-time greats.

“Iron Mike”‘ wasn’t just one of the most explosive, ruthless, dominate boxers of all time, he was also a hall-of-fame entertainer, like Muhammad Ali. Whether it was a weigh-in or interview, you never know what was going to happen.

In June of 1997, he bit a chunk out Evander Holyfield’s ear, an event that has been like another tattoo on Tyson’s face, a permanent fixture that will embody him forever.

He is a living symbol of negativity. Besides the ear feast, he was convicted of rape in 1992, throwing three years of his prime away rotting in prison, lost his four-year old daughter last year in a freak accident inside his home, and is now reportedly broke, living paycheck to paycheck, after grossing what surmounted to a few hundred million dollars during his boxing career.

He has turned Hollywood of late, the first of which was a documentary titled Tyson, a story that lets you dive through the mind of the former champion. Last summer he appeared in The Hangover, one of the highest grossing comedies ever. He actually did quite well.

No matter what he does, people follow. There is an intrigue about him, an aura similar to a president, that captivates people. I could spend hours on youtube watching one Tyson clip after another.

When I found out Mike joined twitter a few months ago it was my second birthday this year.

People need entertainment like plants need water and Tyson is the best entertainer the world has ever seen, because it’s real. His life is so unbelievable that he has become a walking spectacle.

There will never ever be another athlete like Tyson, so enjoy the moments while we still have him.

“Lennox Lewis, I’m coming for you man. My style is impetuous. My defense is impregnable, and I’m just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children. Praise be to Allah!”

Ever go to a restaurant where they have a fish tank with lobsters swimming around? The helpless creatures are just waiting for the inevitable pot of boiling water. They’re only in there for show and are going to be eaten eventually.

Batters facing Florida Marlins ace Josh Johnson this season can empathize with those helpless premium dinner entrees. They can slap, bunt, and swing all they want. They can extend the at-bat with foul balls. They can take their sweet old time going in and out of the box trying to break the pitcher’s momentum.

No matter what they do they can’t hit Josh Johnson.

Johnson has cooked batters this season to the tune of 130 strikeouts against 128 innings of work with a 1.62 ERA, and a 10 – 3 record on an average club. The Marlins are currently in the middle of the pack in the NL with a 45-47 record, 9.0 games back in the N.L. East. Additionally the Marlins have one of the worst defensive units in baseball. With 72 errors thus far, they only trail the Nationals (77).

Whether it’s a 96 mph fastball, a vicious slider, or a sinking change-up, players aren’t going to touch first base often and rarely, if ever, cross home plate when JJ is pitching.

In his 19 starts this season he has given up more than two runs a mere three times. Three! The most runs he gave up all season was four, and that was in the season opener against the Mets in April.

Johnson is gaining steam towards his first Cy Young. The Rockies’ Ubaldo Jimenez has been struggling of late.

His case will only strengthen if the Marlins turn it out around in the second half and close in on the division. Regardless, he is having one of the best seasons in recent history.

Johnson’s 2010 season has a chance to go down as one of the best of the decade for a starting pitcher.

Pedro Martinez’s 2000 season, when he went 18-6 with a 1.74 ERA and 284 strikeouts, comes to mind, as does Randy Johnson in 02′, when he went 24-5 with a 2.32 ERA and an amazing 334 strikeouts.

To say that Johnson’s year thus far isn’t on par with those legendary marks in baseball history is blasphemy.

Johnson is easily among the top three pitchers in all of baseball, and arguably the best. The fact that he’s still just 26 years old just isn’t right. The guy is going to get even better.

Terrifying, I know.

Six-time pro bowler Jason Taylor. New York. Four-time pro bowler Joey Porter. Arizona. The Dolphin’s top two pass-rushers have moved on to other locales, creating a gaping hole in the Miami defense.

Second-year linebacker Cameron Wake is ready. He gave us a taste last season. The sparsely used pass-rushing specialist typically only played in passing situations, yet still complied 5.5 sacks in limited action, including 2.5 against Buffalo in week four.

Anyone who watched him play last year can tell he has a knack for getting to the quarterback. Wake is a force off the edge. The 6’3 250-pounder knows how to best utilize his explosiveness and strength at the point of attack. He accelerates quickly and overpowers lineman from a low stance, dominating the leverage battle en route to the quarterback.

This offseason has been more mental for him than anything else. It’s been about pass coverages and play recognition. Everyone knows he can get to the quarterback, but being an every down player in this league requires more than that.

The Dolphins coaching staff wants the most out of him.

“Our hope is that he can be an every-down player,” said Coach Tony Sparano. “I would hope certainly that he can be an every-down player, that’s why we brought him here. It wasn’t just to be a pass-rush specialist.

A Long Road

Wake’s path to the NFL has been anything but steady. After a solid yet unspectacular career at Penn State, he went undrafted and was picked up by the New York Giants in April of 2005, only to be released a few months later.

After joining the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League, Wake dominated at defensive-end compiling 39 sacks over a two-season span before getting another chance at the NFL with the Dolphins last season.

He was such an effective pass rusher last year that he was on par with NFL sack leader Elvis Dumervil (17 sacks in 09′) from an efficiency standpoint.

According to ProFootballFocus.com, a site that measures advanced statistics, Wake registered a sack for every 24.3 pass rushes while Dumervil registered a sack every 24.6 pass rushes. Wake just didn’t have as many snaps, which can be attributed to his inability to play the pass and run equally as well.

Taking the Next Step

New Dolphins Defensive Coordinator Mike Nolan featured Dumervil in Denver last year in his blitz packages. Wake is the ideal fit for that role and could be in for a breakout year. Double digit sack totals are not out of the question.

Taylor seems to think so.”I think maybe five years from now, maybe one year from now,” Taylor wrote, “People in Miami will quickly forget about me and talk about Cameron Wake because I think he has that kind of talent.

He is above and beyond the best pure pass rusher on this team, and for this defense to be effective they have to put pressure on the quarterback . No pass-rush plus a young, inexperienced secondary equates to major problems.

He will have every opportunity to man one of the outside linebacker spots full time. They need him to be that guy, a complete player.

Nobody questions the physical tools. He is a monster of an athlete, with the size of a linebacker and the explosiveness (4.5 speed) of a running back. It’s more mental than anything else.

If Wake does improve upon his deficiencies and becomes more of a balanced player, he is going to put on a show next year and make fans forget all about Dolphin ghosts like Porter and Taylor.

Miami Heat President Pat Riley hit the mother-load in free agency last week, signing the top three players available in Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.

It’s as if a young Pat in his college playing days strolled into a UK bar with his exotic, beautiful girlfriend (Wade). He then met two other “perfect tens”, one a bodacious redhead (Bosh), and the other a drop-dead hottie of a blonde (Lebron) with a body that could start World War III.

Well Pat, Mr. Slick, somehow, someway, finessed the three of them into coming home with him. He wooed them into sharing the spotlight, into sharing a home.

Lady’s and gentlemen, Pat Riley for President!

Essentially that’s what went down last week, leaving every other spectator in the bar in a jealous rage with nothing to do but throw the kitchen sink (Overpaying) at the scraps (Tyrus Thomas, Travis Outlaw, Darko Milicic), waking up the following morning with a slew of thoughts along the lines of “What in God’s name was I thinking?”

The Haters

Those spectators are showing their rage now. “We’re a better team than Miami right now” were the naive words spewed from the mouth of Chicago Bull’s chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, who according to several sources will be checking into an insane asylum this week.

“Unless we change the rules, it’s still a team game,” Orlando GM Otis Smith said. “Unless we change the rules, we still play with five guys. Unless we change the rules, your depth does matter. So let’s not give them a ring so fast.”

Unless we change the rules and allow teams to play Miami 5 on 3, and even then I’m not sure that would be enough, Miami is going make their opponents feel about as comfortable as their first prostate exam. They aren’t going to enjoy getting dominated by the new-look Heat, but it’s going to happen whether they like it or not.

Depth is coming

Thus far the Heat have surrounded their elite core with Udonis Haslem, Mike Miller, and Zydrunas Ilgauskus. Juwana big man? (Cr: Danny Suarez) Well Juwan Howard is reportedly on the way and will give the Heat another veteran presence in the paint.

There still are pressing needs for a defensive stopper at center and a point guard who can shoot.

Erik Dampier (6’11 270) might be waived by the Bobcats, who just received him in a trade. He would be an ideal fit because he is a veteran, is a rather large human being, and defends the rim with physicality. Would he come for the minimum? Joel Anthony also has a a strong possibility of returning and I wouldn’t be surprised nor disappointed if he is our starting center this year.

At point guard I would think Miami takes a long hard look at Jason Williams, who proved last year he has plenty left in the tank. Eddie House is also an option, and would be an excellent fit with his perimeter shooting.

If Allen Iverson were to come I will have a heart attack, not because he was one of the best pure scoring guards in NBA history, but because trying to fit his ego in with this particular team is like engulfing a fire with kerosene.

Don’t get me wrong, he is one hell of a player and will go down as one of the best scorers in NBA history, he’s just not a good fit with this squad.

Oh and we still have Mario Chalmers, who for his sake, better show something this year.

If I’m Chalmers I sleep in the gym with a ball as my pillow. All I do is work on two things: defense and shooting. Then I work on some more shooting. Teams are going to beg this guy to shoot the ball from the perimeter because they have to. They simply can’t guard Wade, James, and Bosh with three players.

Chalmers is going to find himself incredibly open and if he doesn’t hit those jumpers he is not going to play. If he becomes a solid player it’s because Wade, James, and Bosh turned him into one.

Dynasty?

Here’s why this team is going to be unstoppable next year and beyond:

1. The Celtics did it with their ‘Big Three’ and a surrounding cast that was made up of a bunch of shlubs at the time. Miami’s threesome is Boston’s ‘Big Three’ jacked up on steroids. Pierce, Garnett, and Allen were all in their thirties at the time. Wade, James, and Bosh are in the prime of their careers and collectively are a much higher caliber trio than the combination of Pierce, Garnett, and Allen ever was.

2. It’s all about winning. The Trinasty sacrificed upwards of $50 million to put the Heat in a better position to win. Haslem left an additional $10 million on the table. Miller and Ilgauskus sacrificed dollars for w’s as well. They don’t care about scoring titles or any other individual accolade. They have tunnel vision with their sights set only on multiple championships. When winning is the only prerogative it makes the game simple again, fun even.

3. Depth will be a non-issue. Udonis Haslem (Five-years for $20 million +) will play a role similar to the one he played last year, in which he came off the bench yet still played starter minutes. His ability to defend and knock down the fifteen footer makes him a valuable piece to the puzzle. Mike Miller provides the much needed role of deep shooter who can stretch the floor. No doubt in my mind, he is going to light it up this year. Other veteran players are foaming at the mouth with the opportunity to play for Miami, even if it’s for the minimum. Ilgauskus and Howard are the latest examples. The bench will come together. Patience.

4. The team will only grow stronger. Although the Heat might not have a pick for the next fifty or so years, they still will have the mid-level exception at their disposal every summer beginning next year.

5. Our crunch time lineup is scary. Imagine this scenario: Lebron running the point with Wade as his shooting guard. Mike Miller is at the three. Bosh and Haslem are manning the paint. Lebron can absolutely play point guard for stretches. He is a phenomenal passer and has the quickness and size to defend any position. This forces the opposing point guard to defend either Wade or James. Yikes. Defensively this unit is elite and will get by with the laterally-challenged Miller because all he would have to do is play smart help defense. It isn’t a difficult job unless your name is Mike Beasley.

6. They will make it work. Never in NBA history have two alpha-male superstar perimeter players, who both dominate the ball, played for the same team. Will Wade or James have to adapt their style of play? Often times they won’t be on the floor together so it won’t be an issue. But to think that these guys can’t sacrifice touches to win rings is just ludicrous. They will find a way to make it work. Riley has had two years to dream of strategic scenarios involving these guys. It will work. It has to.

I’ll leave you with one sad, horrifying little tidbit of information which is going to steer me and you towards insanity… The season doesn’t begin for another three months.

This year’s free agent class is filet and lobster while last year’s was chicken and shrimp. The premiere free agents last summer were Hedo Turkoglu and Ron Artest. They wouldn’t rank among the top 10 this year!

The crop this summer is deep and loaded with some of the league’s most talented players, most of which who are in the prime of their careers. Their strengths are numerous, but that’s not to say they are without weaknesses, even the King himself.

NBA Free Agency 2010 Scouting Report

1. Lebron James

Strengths: It’s safe to say there will never be a more physically gifted NBA player. The only way that changes is if he decides to have a superhuman baby with someone like Serena Williams. Can you imagine that kid? A player of his size who moves as well as he does is astounding. He is the NBA’s most impressive specimen.

He could match up with any point guard in the league in the speed department. What strikes me most about Lebron isn’t his dominate scoring ability or anything athleticism related really. It’s his passing awareness. He sees the game play out before it actually happens and delivers the ball accordingly. There are only a handful of players blessed with this skill. Think Chris Paul and Steve Nash, to name a few. But those are pure point guards not 6’8″ genetically constructed mutants like Bron.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit if he starred in the next X-Men flick.

Jordan was never even the passer that Lebron is today. Kobe? No chance. Lebron’s strengths can essentially be summed up in one sentence: He can legitimately dominate a game from any position on the court. The only other player who you could ever have said that about is Magic.

Weaknesses: Suspect perimeter shooting. He isn’t bad. But he is too streaky to be considered a good deep shooter (33% from three last year). If he ever gets up in the high 30th percentile range from the perimeter it’s time for Commissioner David Stern to think about putting him down.

Best Fit: Cleveland, Miami, Chicago.

2. Dwyane Wade

Strengths: Has the ability to get into the lane at will. Uses his strength and agility to get by anyone, and once he gets to the rim he displays unparalleled body control. Excellent shooter within twenty feet. One of the best crunch-time scorers in NBA history and has the ability to take over a game at any moment. His defense is elite when he wants it to be. A true leader and winner.

Weaknesses: Just like James, it’s his deep perimeter shooting (29% career from three). Shot selection is questionable at times as he often settled for shots from the perimeter last year. To take his game to the next level he needs to develop a consistency from the three point line.

One thing that really bothers me is his abandonment of the bank shot from fifteen feet. That shot butchered the Mavs in the ’06 Finals.

Best Fit: Miami. It’s his only fit. The day he leaves is the day I streak in the nude down US-1. I’m either that confident in his return or a just a demented human being.

3. Chris Bosh

Strengths: A finesse big man. Ideally he will play along side a big physical center to compliment his game. Great mid-range shooter. A force attacking the basket with either hand. Excellent rebounder. A very smart defender. He also is an 80% free-throw shooter.

Weaknesses: He’s thin (6’10 230), so he has trouble defending the post against the bigger, physical post players. He’s also not an intimidating shot blocker despite his length and athleticism.

Best Fit: Miami, Chicago.

4. Dirk Nowitzki

Strengths: One of the best shooting big men in NBA history. Not only can he kill you from the perimeter off the catch, but he can put the ball on the floor with either hand to create his shot as well. A strong pick and roll player.

Weaknesses: Settles for jumpers sometimes when he should be taking the ball inside. He isn’t a physical presence on the defensive end. One of the NBA’s biggest whiners. They all are, but he takes it to a new level. Never in the history of his career has he actually committed a foul.

Best Fit: Dallas, Chicago.

5. Joe Johnson

Strengths: Lights-out shooter on the catch or off the dribble. Great size and quickness, which allows him to play three positions effectively. He showed he could be the man in Atlanta, but his best fit would be as a number two or three option.

Weaknesses: Doesn’t have elite athleticism and can be beat off the dribble by the quicker wing players. He has shown you’re not going to win a title with him as your best player.

Best Fit: Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, New York.

6. Carlos Boozer

Strengths: Just might be the best post player in basketball. Excellent scorer with his back to the basket. He uses his wide frame and strength to get easy buckets and rebounds inside. Great mid-range game and excellent off the pick and roll. Uses every inch of his body to get position.

Weaknesses: He is somewhat undersized at 6’8″ and it limits him defensively. Has had Injury issues in the past. A bit older than some of the other top big men (29).

Best Fit: Chicago, Miami, New Jersey.

7. Amare Stoudemire

Strengths: One of the game’s premiere offensive power forwards. Elite athlete. Amazing finisher. He also has an accurate mid range jumper that keeps the defense honest.

Weaknesses: Would he be as good without Steve Nash? Has lapses defensively. Has injury issues and likely will need work done on his knee in the near future.

Best Fit: Phoenix, Chicago, Miami, New York.

8. Paul Pierce

Strengths: A great shooter from anywhere on the court. Excellent in one on one situations. Extremely efficient player.

Weaknesses: Has lost a couple steps over the past few years. How many quality years does he have left? Two, three?

Best Fit: Boston.

9. David Lee

Strengths: Great athlete with a very quick first step. He gets a majority of his points off the pick and roll. A very mobile big man

Weaknesses: Not a good shot blocker. Often times makes you wonder if he is even on the court defensively. How effective would he be in a slower paced offense?

Best Fit: New York, New Jersey, Minnesota. Run the other way Pat!

10. Ray Allen

Strengths: One of the best shooters in NBA history. His quick release allows him to get his shot off at any moment. One of the best free throw shooters ever. He takes pride in taking care of his body and is always one of the best conditioned guys on the court.

Weaknesses: Much streakier than he used to be. How many years does he have left in the tank at 34?

Best Fit: Miami, Boston, Chicago.

* – Raja Bell

Point Guard

** – Raymond Felton, Steve Blake

* – Allen Iverson, Carlos Arroyo

Potential Players That Can Be Acquired Via a Trade:

Darren Collison (PG, New Orleans) – There is no need for the Hornets to hold onto two starting point guards in Chris Paul and Collison, with the latter likely the one to be dealt. He is a young, violently quick player who would fit nicely alongside Wade because of his shooting ability and playmaking skills.

Emeka Okafor (C, New Orleans) – If the Heat were to acquire Collison they would likely have to take on the contract of Okafor ($11 million). He might not be a star, but he is an above average big man who is in the upper tier defensively.

Ty Lawson (PG, Denver) – There is a similar situation in Denver as New Orleans. Lawson is their backup behind Billups, and I see them trying to move him for the right price. Lawson would be a decent upgrade over Chalmers.

Al Jefferson (C, Minnesota) – A young, gifted center who is on the trade market. I could see Riley pushing for him hard if he wasn’t so lousy on the defensive end. This is would probably be a last resort type of trade.

Anderson Varejao (PF/C, Cleveland) – If Lebron leaves Cleveland, which is looking more and more likely, they might have a fire sale a la the 1998 and 2004 Marlins and Varejao is the perfect defensive-minded big man Riley covets.

Danny Granger (SF, Indiana) – If Miami lands a top power forward they can fill the other forward spot with a young, versatile player like Granger, who would tear the league up as a number two or three scorer. He averaged 24.1 points a night last year for the lowly Pacers.

Analysis: Miami is going to push the James/Wade/Bosh trio early on and hard. If James isn’t showing strong interest from the beginning it is time to go into full-attack mode on Chris Bosh. Bosh is key. If Riley and Wade can tie up Bosh, the team is headed in the right direction, which could eventually later include James.

If Bosh were to join James in Chicago, Miami will be scrambling because by the time they move to plan B (Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire, or Carlos Boozer) other teams (New York, L.A., New Jersey) will have already made strong pushes for those second tier guys.

The odds of the Heat landing a star power forward among Bosh, Stoudemire, and Boozer is still pretty high and any one of those guys would probably be enough to get Wade to return. There is no doubt that an elite big man is the number one priority.

For what it’s worth, Stephen A.Smith reported on his radio show today that James, Wade, and Bosh will be going to Miami. Who knows what to think from this because there is a ton of conflicting reports going around. We will know which ones are accurate very soon.

v
Dynasty Scenario – The dream of Bosh, Wade, and James in South Beach comes to fruition and the new look Heat become the most dominant dynasty in modern day professional sports.

Next Best Case Scenario – The Heat build around a lethal core of Wade and Bosh.

Time To Jump Scenario – Chicago lands Bosh and James while Wade says adios. Miami would likely be left with a combination of Carlos Boozer or Amare Stoudemire and Rudy Gay, not exactly a championship core. This day would end with me weeping under my bed.

I have the upmost faith that Pat Riley will get something done that will make Heat fans proud. He has had too much time to analyze every possible scenario that he could run into this summer. After all, his track record is impeccable.

Although the Heat haven’t met expectations ever since their championship run four years ago, the time is coming.

The Heat will rise again.

What might go down as the most influential free agency period in NBA history is finally just days away. The main event is the chase after the most exhilarating athlete on earth, Lebron James.

Lebron is a spectacle. At any moment of any game there is a chance – a very viable one – that he is going to do something amazing, something you’ve never seen before and probably never will again. Combine that with the fact that he is the most complete basketball player the world has ever seen at just 25 years young.

Throw that package into a 6’8 260 pound machine of a body, a body that was handcrafted in an alien lab in some parallel universe with the sole purpose to play basketball.

That’s Lebron in a nutshell.

Fans from Chicago, Miami, New York, New Jersey, and Los Angeles (Clippers) have been salivating for months now over the possibility of ‘The King’ taking their franchise to the next level.

Sometime Thursday afternoon he will welcome in representatives from the aforementioned teams to give their best sales pitch, a pitch that could make or break careers of front offices, players, and even franchises.

Although nothing is certain, there is a report from the New York Times that debates whether there is any legitimacy that these meetings will be anything more than a formality. The latest reports have it that James and Chris Bosh going to Chicago is a certainty.

The bottom line is that an impending free agent cannot negotiate a contract with teams until July 1 officially begins on Thursday at 12:00 A.M. (Player’s cannot sign until July 8). Anything can happen between now and then.

There is still hope for those outside Chi-town.

The key to Lebron isn’t some fancy sales pitch. New York can promise glitz and L.A. can sell him on weather and Hollywood. Jersey can sell him on playing for the league’s most impressive owner, a 6’8″ Russian gazillionaire who doesn’t even use a computer or cell phone.

Miami can try to convince him to team up with D-Wade in South Beach and help build a team around the most unique but questionable duo ever, while Chicago can offer Lebron an intriguing combination of complimentary young talent and further cap space.

Forget all that.

The key to me seems so simple now. It resides in a big man that would perfectly compliment him. A big man that can provide a one-two punch that would make any team with a stud wing a serious contender. His name is Chris Bosh.

If Chicago can throw in Bosh in addition to their other assets, it’s all over. Lebron will join him in Chicago and become the new beasts of the east.

Elite big men make life so much easier on their guards. Just ask Kobe Bryant who would have never won a ring without men named O’Neal or Gasol.

Amare Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer are great players but don’t compare to Bosh’s all-around, complete game.

The only team that can counter Chicago from the beginning is and always has been Miami. If the Heat lock up Bosh, it throws Chicago’s dream scenario into a tail spin.

The Heat would be able to build a team from scratch around Bosh and Wade, a team that would be better than Lebron and Rose without question. Keep in mind Miami would still then be able to add a third premier free agent, something Chicago absolutely cannot do.

On a side note people say, “Well why doesn’t James join Wade from the start?” It has to do with legacy. If James joins Wade he will never, no matter how many rings they win, go down as the best ever, surpassing Michael Jordan.

If James can win it all, four or five times, without a guy like Wade, he can still maybe overcome ‘His Airness’ and cement his legacy as being the all-time greatest. Wade is essentially too good for Lebron as a side kick. He would always be weighing James’ legacy down.

People would always talk about how he never won a ring until he joined Wade.

Chris Bosh could be Lebron’s “Pippen”, a guy that never ever took the spotlight off Jordan during the Bulls’ dynasty. Wade could never play that role, he has already achieved too much. Bosh is just good enough to help him win a ring but just bad enough to not have a chance of tarnishing Lebron’s legacy, if that makes any sense.

So if Wade and Miami have Bosh in place, James would be forced into considering joining forces with them in Miami and opening a can on the rest of the league for the next half decade. That is if values winning over anything else.

Or he would then join Chicago or New York and try to take down the fully-loaded new look Heat with he sole stubborn purpose of defining his legacy. There is a chance he’d still win a ring, but it would be anything but certain.

The key to the Lebron James saga has never been about the bright lights of New York City, a young promising point guard in Chicago or the allure of joining Wade in South Beach, it’s always been about Chris Bosh.

While Heat fans have become infatuated, obsessed even, with the Lebron-Bosh-Wade pipe dream, one of those stars recently spoke about the likelihood of bringing his game to South Beach this summer.

Superstar power-forward Chris Bosh mentioned on Saturday that Miami is in prime contention to land this services.

“Miami is in top contention,” Bosh said at DJ Irie’s charity golf tournament in Miami. “With the money they have, the cap space they have, the rights on Dwyane [Wade], him possibly staying. And just having a good organization; they are known as a first-class organization.”

When asked about whether he would be willing to play center next year, his stance was firm. “The thing I said when I came into free agency is I’m going to be a forward”, Bosh said. “I’m going to play my natural position.”

Haywood is a great option at center, but won't come cheap

So if the Heat are serious about tying up the five-time all star’s services, they will need to make some other moves as well.

Acquiring a high-end center in this year’s market is not going to come on the cheap. Supply will not come close to meeting the demand this summer.

There are a ton of teams with the cap space to splurge this summer and only a limited number of premier players to be had.

The second tier players, in any other summer, could be had for much less. Because not every team looking to spend is going to land their James, Wade, or Bosh, guys like Brendan Haywood and Tyson Chandler (Early Termination Option on his final year) will get overpaid.

Center Dexter Pittman could turn out to be a nice selection in the draft on thursday, but he’s far from a finished product.

Some potential fits at center in free agency include Haywood, Chandler, Joel Pryzbilla, and Brad Miller. All are unrestricted free agents except for Chandller, who is thinking about opting out of his contract.

Chandler and Haywood might be the biggest names of that group, but they won’t come on the cheap and both will command a contract starting in the $8-12 million range. Assuming Miami is able to sign Wade and a power forward like Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, or Carlos Boozer, which is a fair assumption, they still would have gaping holes at point guard and small forward.

The smarter move would be to sign a guy like Pryzbilla, an experienced seven footer who can block shots and score at an efficient rate. He’s still reasonably young at 30 and can be had at a starting salary in the $3-6 million range. Then the Heat could use their remaining assets (Cash, Beasley) to acquire a starting point guard, small forward, and still retain some of their own guys.

Call me insane, but I think Pat Riley’s number one target is Bosh, not Lebron James. If Riley can step in and immediately woo Bosh in the first hour of free agency, while everyone else has their sights set on James, maybe he can lock up his franchise cornerstones (Wade, Bosh) right from the get-go.

While the thought of Lebron and Wade running the floor together might fire up your nerves and make your palms sweat, the more realistic tandem of Bosh and Wade could very well end up being the move.

Come back on Monday for the Miami Heat Free Agency Preview.
