UM’s Durand Scott on POY List
Hurricane fans grew excited as Miami freshman Durand Scott caught on fire towards the end of last year, averaging 17.4 points over his final five games. Now the sophomore is getting noticed on a national level.
ESPN’s Andy Katz has included Scott on his preseason national player of the year watch list, a compilation of the nation’s top fifty players. He joins stars like Duke’s Kyle Singler, Purdue’s Robbie Hummel, and UConn’s Kemba Walker.
Scott averaged 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals on 45.5% shooting from the field last season.
He heads into the 2010-11 season as the go-to scorer for a Canes squad that will set out to improve upon their 20-13 record from a year ago in which they failed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. They were especially disappointing in conference play, finishing dead last in the ACC with a 4-12 record.
However, with a deeper, more experienced roster at their disposal they look to do big things this season.
