Fins look at Adalius Thomas

The Dolphins could sign Adalius Thomas this week before a big matchup with the Vikings

The Miami Dolphins worked out linebacker Adalius Thomas on Tuesday, a move that might signal the end for Chaning Crowder this season.

A lingering groin injury has kept Crowder from practicing for most of the last month.

Thomas, 33, also worked out with the New York Jets last week.

Analysis

Although his position in the past has mostly been as an outside linebacker, he has the size and intellect to play on the interior for the Dolphins defense.

He’s 6’2″ 270, and although he does not possess the same time of explosiveness that made him a two time pro bowler, he can be a versatile presence.  A move inside would mask his drop-offs and allow him to be more of a run stopper as well as an inside pass rusher.

If Thomas were signed, it would likely be a strong indicator that Crowder would be put on the injured reserve, prematurely ending his season. He could even be released.

Although Thomas is not the same star player he was for so many years as a Raven and Patriot, he can be an asset to a young, evolving Miami defense.
