The NFL Draft sits three whopping months away. But January is never too soon to talk Dolphins draft prospects because the last time they played meaningful football in the month was back in 2009. Michael Beasley still donned a Heat uniform.
With the 12th overall selection, let’s take a peek at some potential names each week who may be deserving of Jeff Ireland’s graces.
Prospect: Manti Te’o
School: Notre Dame
Marital Status: Fictional
Scout’s Take: “He has exceptional football instincts, a ton of experience and can both attack the backfield to make stops as well as get to the edges.” – ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.
Fins Fit?: Miami doesn’t need a linebacker per say as much as some other positions. But with Dansby and Burnett both on the backside of 30, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to consider the Heisman finalist. The question is over value and whether Te’o is going to be an impact three-down player. Is he worth taking over a potential star corner, receiver, or pass rusher?
Plausibility: As we’ve seen in year one, Joe Philbin likes his players traveling light. Te’o obviously has baggage for days after partaking in the Fake Girlfriend Experience. Regardless of his potential innocence, I think the Fins pass this headache on to someone else.
